It was a forgotten people, but when they started the country's energy macro in the 60's, their life and landscape jumped dramatically. Many owners, after selling their land to the dam and hydro, moved to the coast, the plains, the coffee, etc.. These territories were negotiated by the current President, Alvaro Uribe, when he served as Head of Property for Public Enterprises of Medellín.
Suddenly, the small town was overrun with heavy equipment and tractor-trailers, that rolled heavily through narrow streets, taking the eaves of houses. The people were surprised, did not know what the impact of all this mobilization. In addition, they were shocked with the arrival of many foreigners, people from other cities in Colombia, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Peruvians, Italians, etc..
Guatapé became a cosmopolitan town with a large-scale social phenomenon: There was speculation in the purchase and sale of land, work stoppages to protest changes in the region, working for many in the works, emigration of others, turn in local economy, marriages with foreigners, the population increased by 7000 people, before they were about 3000, and so on. Finished the dam and hydropower in 1978, the inhabitants were reduced to 4000.
